St Petersburg Association for cultural and business cooperation with Italy is the successor of the traditions Leningrad Department of the «USSR-Italian» Society. It was founded in St Petersburg in 1965. The Association unites fanciers and experts of history, culture and art of Italy, Russian-Italian cultural-historical relations, groups of cultural, science and education institutions, supporting the partnership with Italy.
Chairperson of the association is the director of the St Petersburg Department of the clinic “Eye Microsurgery”, Doctor of Medicine, Professor L.I. Balashevich.
The Association supports strong and productive relations with Cultural societies in Russia and CIS in the first-rate cities and regions in Italy and some other social, religious and State institutions, interested in strengthening and development relations with our city and Russia in all.
St Petersburg Association for International Cooperation was an initiator of school, students and family exchanges on a free basis between St Petersburg and Italy. In the entrails of the Association» were founded the community «Dante Aligery» and International female club-house «Soroptimist International»; the Association was one of the main organizers of annual Russian-Italian festival «Italy on the Italian street» within the bounds of the festival Petersburgians had an opportunity to get to know history, traditions and this day life of cities and provinces in Italy. More than 15 years Milan Association «Italy-Russia. Lombardy» and Rome Culture and Russian language University realize the programme «Open Russia for yourself!», which includes Russian language seminars, school and student exchanges, modern Russian artists, photographers and designers exhibitions, soloists and musical collectives performances, participation Russian specialists in conferences in Italy and administration in replenishment library stock in Milan Association and many others.
On its turn, St Petersburg Association provides lectures of history and culture of Italy with the support of Italian and St Petersburg specialists, international conferences, where different problems are discussed. Italian language courses are working; also concerts of Italian soloists and musical collectives, exhibitions of Italian artists are organized. The Association has the library of fiction and fine art literature (in Italian) at its disposal. Also it has all necessary equipment for Italian learners.
